The cost of this reclamation has been already voted by the Financial Committee of the Legislative Council, which is a Committee of the whole Council, so that its votes are practically equivalent to votes of the Colonial Legislature. There are abundant funds in hand for its execution.
I earnestly commend that Your Lordship's assent should be conveyed to the report of the proceedings of the Financial Committee forwarded with my despatch No. W123 of the 27th instant.
I should be glad if Your Lordship's decision could be communicated to me by telegraph as soon as possible after the receipt of this despatch; for it will be recollected that the delay of every week in beginning this most necessary sanitary work increases the danger to the health of the community in this tropical climate.
